Duodenal ulcers come and go, but the duodenal ulcer disease persist. Scars in the duodenal bulb is a definite sign of duodenal ulcer disease, although no actual ulcer is seen.

The clinical significance of a finding like this is most often the need for eradication of Helicobacter pylori.

Scarring sometimes produces diverticulum-like changes in the bulb. These are not however real diverticulas.
