Peristaltic Wave in the Antrum
Peristaltic WaveThe gastric motility is regulated by a gastric "pacemaker". Many gastrointestinal hormones influence the motility.
Peristaltic WaveDuring endoscopy at least one peristaltic wave in the antrum is followed. If the motility of the wall is defect, this may indicate e.g. tumous infiltration. In these pictures, a normal peristaltic wave is seen.
Peristaltic WaveSometime the peristalsis does not "start" during endoscopy. Suctioning of all the air in the stomach, and then filling the stomach with air usually cause a peristaltic wave.
