This lady in in an age about 70 had been treated for osteoporosis for about four months. A few weeks before this examination she had started to experience some difficulties to eat solid food, and this dysphagia progressed clearly from week to week. This is the finding in the distal oesophagus. What is the probable etiology of this ulcerated stricture?

Answer

This oesophageal injury was caused by alendronate, a drug used in the treatment of osteoporosis.
