This quite symptomfree middle aged man came to an upper endoscopy because of some abnormal findings in routine laboratory tests. This is the finding in his distal oesophagus. What is this finding - and what kind of disease is it indicating?

Answer

Oesophageal varices indicating portal hypertension due to some chronic liver disease.
