
Diverticulitis is a complication of diverticular disease in the sigmoid colon. Colonoscopy is ofted difficult in a patient with diverticulitis and not without danger.

The main indication for colonoscopy in a patient with diverticulitis is to exclude cancer. The findings in colonoscopy are patchy redness and oedomatous mucosa in the region of diverticulosis. In these pictures, a diverticulum is seen to the left in the picture and the bowel lumen to the right.

Patients with diverticulitis hav abdominal pain, fewer, often a palpable mass over the sigmoid colon, leukocytosis and elevated CRP.
